How to use mtl file in maya


















Define an area for export. Define image size. Exporting from Rhino Select the parts you want to export. Choose a path and a file name to store the IGES file. Click Save. Set Iges type to Maya. These three file formats are considered to be universal formats, and most 3D computer graphics programs offer the option to import and export these file types. Maya is better to fit large studio productions, whereas Blender is the ideal choice for small start-ups. With Maya, rendering out animation for the first time can be quite a challenge, whereas Blender can make the rendering process just a little bit easier for rendering out an animation or a series of frames.

My company purchased a model and was given an obj and an mtl. I import the obj and it has absolutely no texture information and I can't seem to associate the mtl with the obj even when I make a new texture. As they were given in a single package zip they're already in one folder together but importing it has absolutely no texture or image connotations and it just uses lambert 1.

Viewing it in the textured or shaded views and changing the settings like you recommended change nothing because I'm still viewing lambert 1, which is not connected at all to the mtl file or any images. Did OP ever find a solution?

I'm using Maya on a Windows 10 computer if it helps, and my programmer on his own Windows computer is having the exact same issue. I didn't think I'd need to include files since A I wasn't OP and B this seems like a fairly straightforward question on basis of "how is this supposed to make it work in Maya", not at all a bug or issue or personal program thing.

However, in my case, it's irrelevant because the person who provided the model and files failed to include the necessary attachments for the MTL to work. If the texture has 4 pngs or tgas, those still need to exist for the texture to work; MTL merely preserves the links for OBJ since those don't carry texture info like FBX does. Hopefully my rookie mistakes can be of use to someone in the future!

I'm having the same issues, all of the files are exactly as they should be, I have not messed around with the downloaded file yet when I import the object, the materials are missing entirely.

Improve this question. Aly Aly Does your mtl file include references to your textures? And if so, are they referenced as filenames only or by path?
